Coaching Staff: S-Class Fencing

Eli is a 2021 Olympian, Canadian Senior National Fencing Team member, and FIE-certified coach with 10 years of experience teaching in Los Angeles, New York City, New Jersey, Durham (U.K.), and Vancouver. His accomplishments include NCAA All-American (2012), British Universities and College Sport (BUCS) individual and team champion (2017, 2018), Pan-American Games medalist (2019), Pan-American Championship medalist (2014, 2015, 2018, 2019). He has also qualified for numerous world championships and received several scholarships for his fencing experience. Both he and his brother have recruited for Durham University, one of the UK’s leading academic institutions. Before moving to Vancouver to pursue his passion for teaching, Eli worked in the tech and marketing industries.

 

Joseph Schenkel

Joseph has fenced since 2003 and has captained every collegiate fencing team he has been a part of, including Durham University; where he won BUCS Team Gold in 2017, 2018, and 2019. Joseph's passion for fencing is only surpassed by his passion for teaching, a trait one recognizes immediately when witnessing him coach. Joseph also leads our strength and conditioning sessions, using a cardiovascular fitness program he created while earning his Masters in High Intensity Interval Training at Durham University.

 

 

Tanya Nelson

Tanya began fencing in 2008 as a student of Jujie Luan in Edmonton, AB. She was a member of the Canadian National Team from 2012-2014; retiring from international competition when she entered university. Tanya won numerous National and Provincial Championship medals, achieved a top-32 finish at Cadet World Championships (2013), and medaled in a 2012 North American Cup. Recently, Tanya was the Team Canada Manager and Head Foil Coach for 82 Canadian athletes at the 2022 Commonwealth Championships.
